East Nashville in the running for Pepsi Grant Money

The Nashville Business Journal reported on Friday that East Nashville may stand to benefit from an innovative marketing initiative by Pepsi.

The soda maker has forgone Super Bowl advertising this year and is instead drumming up goodwill by plowing $1.3 million a month into community grants. The twist: The entire effort is fed by social media.

At refresheverything.com, users are invited to submit their ideas for community grants. Registered users or Facebook members can then vote on which projects are most deserving.

Each month, Pepsi will award up two $250,000 grants, up to 10 $50,000 grants, up to 10 $25,000 grants and up to 10 $5,000 grants.

As of noon Friday, a proposal by Will Acuff of Centresource Interactive Agency was ranked No. 8 in the $5,000 category.

In his grant request, Acuff proposes using the money to pick up 2,000 bags of trash in East Nashville. The money would help Acuff’s organization Clean East pay for bags, latex gloves, “trash sticks,” fuels costs, and landfill dumping costs.

Acuff said he has organized litter cleanups in the past with fellow members of City Church. He hopes to use the grant money to scale up operations and turn the cleanups into big events by partnering with East Nashville neighborhood associations and local schools.

“Trying to get people to give their free time to put on rubber gloves and pick up dirty things is not an easy sell,” he said.

He hopes that winning will make it a little easier. You can vote here.

5 reasons to live in east nashville

1.  Eclectic Vibe- Home to many of Nashville’s local artists, East Nashville celebrates their neighbors with tons of local artist showings, live music, and great festivals (Tomato Arts Fest)

2. Restaurants- Where to begin on the wonderful restaurants.  With so many locally owned restaurants, its hard to imagine why anyone would venture to the other side of the river.  A few of my favorites are Wantanabe Sushi, Batter’d & Fried, Eastland Cafe, Mitchell’s Deli, Madonna’s, I Dream of Weenie & Rosepepper.

3.  Neighborly Area- I can honestly say that I have never lived in a neighborhood where everyone was so welcoming.  Meeting someone who also lives in East Nashville is like meeting an old friend- the conversation immediately lends itself to “where in East Nashville” and “what’s your favorite restaurant?”.  I love that in a community.

4.  Walk-ability-  There is no other neighborhood in East Nashville that is so walkable.  Restaurants, coffee shops, post office, grocery stores, are all in walking distance.  Did I mention Fido?  East Nashville is one of the most pet-friendly neighborhoods in Nashville.

5.  Architecture- The homes in East Nashville have so much character.  Most were built around the turn-of- the- century, and have beautiful architectural characteristics.  You’ll find Tudors, bungalows, and Victorians are the most popular.

Interested in an East Nashville home?  Or maybe a great loft or townhome, MC3, East End Lofts, 37206 building, or 5th & Main? Give me a call at (615) 509-7000 or email me at Josh@JoshAndersonRealEstate.com and I can send you homes in East Nashville that fit your criteria.

The other nine neighborhoods on the list are: Crescent Hill, Louisville, Ky.; Wilmore, Charlotte, N.C.; Viola/Heritage, Greenville, S.C.; Phelps Grove, Springfield, Mo.; Fairmount, Forth Worth, Texas; Patterson Park, Baltimore; Springfield, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Holy Cross, New Orleans.
